Our Material Handling Solutions

SERA develops, manufactures, and installs its own line of systems specifically designed for conveying solid fuels in all their forms (wood biomass, RDF, pellets, etc.)
Proper handling of wood is important to ensure a high availability rate for this heterogeneous material, which must be free of metal particles, stones, silica, and other foreign matter.
What is wood biomass?
Wood biomass refers to a range of wood-based materials, such as wood chips, bark, stump waste, compost rejects, industrial byproducts, end-of-life wood, and so on.

SERA works with you to determine the conveying equipment best suited to your needs, ensuring that the heterogeneous material is homogenized.
Certain criteria are essential when selecting conveyor technology:
  • The type of material
  • Site Cleanliness
  • The cost of the website
  • Availability
  • The distance from the elevation point

The Benefits

Low operating costs – The most reliable handling system for unscreened, heterogeneous biomass
Angle up to 18° on a smooth belt and 35° on a chevron belt

Self-supporting belt conveyor

Requires closely spaced metal legs; ideally placed on the floor, as it does not allow for the installation of maintenance walkways.

Beam-frame belt conveyor

Conveyor with a truss frame to space out the support legs and support heavy loads, such as maintenance walkways, when the conveyor is elevated.

Underground conveyor belt

Conveyor with full metal cladding for more convenient access and/or to integrate the conveyor system with architectural constraints. Gallery conveyors also help maintain a cleaner environment by minimizing dust dispersion.

Integrating fire safety equipment is also easier.

Air-supported belt conveyor

This line of conveyors allows for long-distance transport without the need for maintenance access along the conveyor, as the air-cushion technology eliminates the need for roller stations.
  • Low power consumption
  • Flow rate up to 1,200 m³/h
  • Maximum tilt: 8°

Dump Cart for a Conveyor Belt

This type of conveyor enables automatic longitudinal filling of silos, with layer management to ensure FIFO (First In, First Out) compliance.

The Benefits

Key Features – No maintenance access required along the length of the conveyor – Heavy-duty models that can be completely disassembled; no welded components

Chain Conveyors

The chain conveyors designed by SERA are specifically tailored for conveying wood particles and wood biomass. The design parameters are based on more than 50 years of experience.

This conveying technology allows for steep angles, which are determined based on the type of material and its particle size.
Our Product Line
  • “Sawmill” line, normal use
  • “Wood for Energy” line, heavy-duty use
  • “Recycling” line, heavy-duty use with frequent contaminants
  • Belt conveyors

This type of conveyor system allows for very steep inclines when site constraints require angles greater than 75°.

With wood biomass, it is important that the layout be designed to accommodate the return sections of the belt.

    Handling screws

Conveyor and metering screws are frequently used in the handling of wood chips. The varied particle size distribution of the wood requires extensive experience in the sizing and design of the screws.

The screws must be suitable for this very specific material. SERA’s experience ensures optimal performance while reducing premature wear caused by abrasion.

Buffer hopper for a biomass boiler

Thanks to our experience in wood handling, biomass boiler manufacturers regularly entrust us with the manufacture of the buffer hopper, which is designed to regulate the flow of fuel to the furnace.

SERA adapts the technology, capacity, and control method to the specific needs of the boiler.
